Mounting the TV

To mount your TV on a stud wall follow the next few steps. Follow the manufacturer’s guidelines if the wall is of a different construction.

Locate the wall studs within the wall. It is very important that you screw into the solid wood of the stud and not just into the wallboard as the board will not hold the weight of the TV. The best way to do this is to use a stud finder, which is available from hardware stores for less than $20. Make sure you find the center of the stud to ensure a secure mounting.

Mark with a pencil the centre of each stud. Measure the distance between the screw holes on the mount. Decide how high you want to hang the TV and mark each hole on the wall with the correct distance between the holes. Use a level to ensure that the holes are exactly horizontal to each other. It is very important that this is accurate. Once the TV is on the wall it will be very obvious it is not level and very difficult to replace.

Use the biggest screws possible. #14 x 1.5 inches are ideal. For this size drill a
pilot hole 13/64″ in diameter first.

Screw the mount into the wall, checking again to ensure it is level.

Attach the mount with the screws. Double check to ensure that it is level.

If you are running your cable through the wall now is the time to drill the holes in the wall and run the cable. This is a lot easier to do before the TV goes on the wall.
